Cheesesteak Challenge

CHARACTERISTICS OF AUTHENTIC CHEESESTEAK EXPERIENCES (ACEs)

cheesesteak1.jpg1. The Joint
Cheesesteak protocol is closely linked to gruff Philadelphia/east coast culture, which may fly in the face of slick, user friendly (and hopefully sanitary) fast food culture.

A genuine Cheesesteak establishment will be on the polar extreme of the marketability scale, opposite a reputable establishment such as, say, Chick-Fil-a. Please allow me to explain using the following grid:

……………………….CHICK FILA vs AUTH. CHEESESTEAK EXP.
Exterior: -……………. looks inviting – …..looks rather scary
Interior: – ……………..clean – ……………….usually a bit grimy
Demeanor – …………..friendly – …………..brusque
Demeanor – …………..patient – …………….proper ordering protocol required
Ordering:  – …………..Multicultural – …..some require you to order in English ONLY
…………………………………………………………..(ACLU is investigating Geno’s I think)
Seating: – ………………indoor booths – …..outside barstool or stand
Healthy: – ……………..no grease – …………grease a’plenty
Meat: – ………………….chicken-centric – ..sola beef gloria (to the glory of beef)

  3. Thanks for the comment Bryan. If I am in CT anytime soon I shall put your cheesesteak to the test! You can click the Cheesesteak Challenge page under the blog banner for the guidelines. I must say that the steak on your site does look genuine, even for out of state!
